ABOUT US
The Division of Pulmonology comprises of competent and experienced consultants, residents in Pulmonary Medicine, dedicated respiratory nurses and respiratory therapists. The infrastructure is state of the art and is equipped with bronchoscope, pulmonary function lab, and home study for sleep apnea.
The pulmonology department has round the clock facilities for treatment of respiratory emergencies including facilities for non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation; it offers services like Pre-operative Pulmonary Evaluation & Pre-operative Pulmonary Preparation, Other Pulmonary Procedures & Interventions (Eg. Biopsies & Chest Drainages), Asthma Clinic, Smokerās Rehabilitation Program, Respiratory Therapy & Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and Patient counseling and Education.,/p>
It has plans to soon acquire a Full fledged Sleep Lab, Laser Therapy, DLCO (diffusion lung study) Respiratory Therapy, Medical Thoracoscopy, and Interventional Bronchoscopy.
Services & Facilities Offered
Basic Pulmonary Function Test :Spirometry is the test done to assess the Airflows and Lung Capacities. Commonly known as Lung Function Test/ Pulmonary Function Tests. It is the main diagnostic tool to diagnose many Respiratory Conditions like Asthma, COPD, etc., and to monitor the progression of the disease and response to treatment.
This test is mainly patient effort based test where the patient is asked to blow through a Mouth held device, the values obtained are matched against the age/sex/height/weight matched predicted values. After the initial test is done patient is administered inhaled bronchodilator and the test is repeated after 20-30 minutes to know the improvement after administering the medication.
A Day-Care Diagnostic Service done under Local Anaesthesia where a Fibre-Optic Video Bronchoscope is used to study the anatomy of the Air Passages and is performed in various Lung conditions
- Unresolving Pneumonia
- Haemoptysis(Spitting out Blood)

- Bronchoscopy in ICU for patients on ventilator.
- BAL : Broncho Alveolar Lavage is the Fluid Sample collected and sent for analysis.

Useful Information
Patient Information:For Out-Patient Consultation REGISTER at the main registration counter and then proceed to Department of Pulmonary Medicine OPD for consultation.
Emergency & In-Patient/ Critical Care is provided with in-house ResidentsĀ Ā available round the clock.
Spirometry, pulmonary function test :It is a Simple Patient Effort based test. Spirometry will be ordered by the doctors, to diagnose various Respiratory Condition and to quantify/ monitor the Progression of the disease. Procedure will take 30minutes to perform.

- It is a Day-Care Diagnostic Procedure done under mild sedation and local anesthesia.
- The patient will be posted for Bronchoscopy after thorough evaluation.
- The Patient has to be in the department on the appointed date and time and should be fasting(empty stomach) for at least 6 to 8 hrs before the procedure.
- Certain Blood investigations are done before the procedure.
- Bronchoscopy takes 30 min to perform.
- Following Bronchoscopy the patient will be observed in the Hospital for 3hrs.
- The Patient will be discharged from the Hospital if clinically stable, and the patient can take feeds after 3hrs.
